The city of Hayward filed a searing lawsuit against Alameda County on Thursday, claiming the county allowed one of its foster centers to spiral out of control into a hotbed of child prostitution and rampant drug use after sheriff’s deputies were inexplicably removed from the facility. The city’s lawsuit comes after months of warnings and calls for help from Hayward officials — once again raising questions about the leadership and administration of Alameda County’s Social Services Agency amid deep, systemic issues within its child protection and foster care systems. The agency has come under repeated fire — and faced multiple lawsuits — in recent years for failing to protect children who face abuse or neglect, or who enter foster care. The results have, at times, turned deadly.Hayward officials say that cycle has continued, with county leaders appearing “deflective and lacking urgency, with no acknowledgment of responsibility for the human trafficking of childr...2023 NBA Draft: Warriors pick Santa Clara star Brandin Podziemski with No. 19 pick

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — There was plenty of debate in the weeks leading up to the NBA draft over whether the Charlotte Hornets preferred Alabama’s Brandon Miller or the G League Ignite’s Scoot Henderson with the No 2 pick.In general manager Mitch Kupchak’s mind there was never a debate.“Brandon was our favorite all along,” Kupchak said. “There was a lot of spirited discussion in the last three days, which I welcome. … But I think he’s the player that is the best player.”Miller gives the Hornets an athletic 6-foot-9 wing with a smooth shooting stroke who can knock down shots from the perimeter. He averaged 18.8 points and 8.2 rebounds per game last season for the Crimson Tide, who entered the NCAA Tournament as the No. 1 overall seed before making an early exit. But the Southeastern Conference’s player of the year as a freshman comes with some baggage.Miller is tied to a case that led to former Tide player Darius Miles and another man being indicted on cap...Lee-Anne Pace shoots 66 for the first-round lead in the KPMG Women’s PGA
