Jury to hear closing arguments in Proud Boys leaders’ trial WASHINGTON (AP) — A historic trial over the deadly U.S. Capitol insurrection is drawing to a close, with prosecutors and defense lawyers set to make their final appeals to jurors before they decide the fate of Proud Boys extremist group leaders charged with plotting to use force to keep then-President Donald Trump in power. A federal jury in Washington, D.C., is scheduled to begin hearing closing arguments on Monday after more than three months of testimony in the seditious conspiracy case against former Proud Boys national chairman Enrique Tarrio and four lieutenants. Tarrio is one of the top targets of the Justice Department’s investigation of the riot that erupted at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, as Congress prepared to certify Joe Biden’s presidential election victory over Trump. Tarrio wasn’t in Washington, D.C., that day but is accused of orchestrating an attack from afar. The Justice Department has already secured seditious conspiracy convictions against the founder and m...

SATURDAY NIGHT HAIL AS LARGE AS TENNIS BALLS FOR SOME Today will be one of the quieter days of the work week with only a few spots of sprinkles/light rain possible. Mainly cloudy skies and cool temperatures (60s) can be expected areawide.A disturbance passing overhead will bring an increased chance for scattered storms Tuesday afternoon and evening. Storm development will largely depend on whether the "lid" in our atmosphere breaks (formally known as the "cap"), but current thinking points to this lid eroding and storms strengthening late in the day.A slight risk (2 out of 5) exists for areas in the eastern Hill Country, Austin-metro and eastern counties Tuesday afternoon and evening. ‘Pristine’ Menominee forest at risk for lack of workers

‘Pristine’ Menominee forest at risk for lack of workers MENOMINEE COUNTY, Wis. — Amid the sprawling farmlands of northeast Wisconsin, the Menominee forest feels like an elixir, and a marvel. Its trees press in, towering and close, softening the air, a dense emerald wilderness that’s home to wolves, bears, otters, warblers and hawks, and that shows little hint of human hands.Over the last 160 years, much of this forest has been chopped down and regrown nearly three times. The Menominee Tribe of Wisconsin, its stewards, have pulled nearly 200 million cubic feet of timber from this land since 1854 — white pine cut into museum displays and hard maple made into basketball courts for the Olympics.Yet the forest has more trees on the same acreage than it did a century and a half ago — with some trees over 200 years old.The Menominee accomplished this by putting the well-being of the forest and their people ahead of profits and doing the exact opposite of commercial foresters. They chop down trees that are sick and dying or harvest those that ha...

98.3 TRY Social Dilemma: Am I Lying to My Daughter By Filling Old Water Bottles With Tap?   ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Today's 98.3 TRY Social Dilemma is from Paul and it's about water bottles and lying. Here's his email:Hi Jaime. I have a problem with my 17-year-old daughter. She has gotten into an expensive habit, and I’m trying to figure out how to break it. She’s got it in her head that the only “good water” is bottled water, and that the water from our sink is inferior. For the record, we have a filtration system, and our sink water is more than fine. Anyway, she’s been pressuring us to buy cases and cases of bottled water, and then pours a couple every day into a drink container and takes it to school. I think this is a colossal waste of money and creates needless garbage waste. So, I’ve been taking her empty bottles (before she pitches them), and refilling them and putting the caps back on tightly. I’ve gotten away with it for a few weeks now, but it’s just a matter of time before she finally realizes that the seal isn’t cracking anymore when she opens the bottles. An...

Ask Amy: Roomies trespass and are caught on camera Dear Amy: I am a college student living with college-aged roommates in a four-bedroom, one-bathroom house. We each have our own room and we share common living spaces.A few months ago, I started noticing my locked bedroom door mysteriously unlocked and wide open, exposing my belongings to the rest of the house.I promptly put up a security camera in my room.Sure enough, one day I got a notification of a person breaking into my room.I saved the video and anxiously pondered ideas about what I should do.I decided to do nothing and see if it would happen again.Again, I received a notification that a person was in my room. This time all of my roommates were in my bedroom — scoping it out (it’s a tiny room). One of the roommates spotted the camera and immediately exited the room. On the tape I heard him state to the others that they should say that the reason for forced entry was to shut the open window.I am furious and conflicted on what I should do.Related ArticlesAsk Amy | ...
